Resting comfortably upon her leaf
Albina the spider gets some sleep
crawling closer, her tepid fly
so timid, so aloof, so painfully shy
“Come closer my love you know I won’t bite”
“Your web my Queen, is pure delight…”
“It took me ages, longer than a day.”
“The work is quality, but will it stay?”
“If the winds are calm and the dew is light,
it should last us through the night.”
The spider opened her arms to the fly,
Ever so swiftly he swept to her side.
Whispering sweet nothings on and on,
legs and wings entangled ‘til dawn.
Sunshine and dewdrops dripping on silk,
clouds drifting by, white as milk.
“Oh what a calamity this world of mine,”
the Spider Queen chided after she dined.
Her lover, her friend, completely vanished,
“I’ll never get use to the collateral damage.”
